Every now and then people impress me
One of my favorite things about having blue hair is the way kids react to it...actually, no, scratch that, it's the way their parents react to them reacting to it. Unfortunately, my amusement is often at the expense of the kid cause the parent is usually scolding them not to be rude.

Yesterday, I went into the restroom at a supermarket and there was a guy in there helping his 7-8 year old son wash up. As I squeezed past them, the kid says, "Hey! That guy has blue hair." But instead of the usual squashing of youthful enthusiasm, dad says, "Well son, that's what you call 'being an individual'. And there's nothing wrong with that." They exit the room, and dad is still going on. "...you know someday when you're older, maybe you can have blue hair too."

I need to go shopping more on Sunday evenings.

Yeah...I didn't get a chance to thank him. I love it when I see parents like that.

As a kiltie, I'm well familiar with the phenomenon. If it's actually a young kid, I'll answer their questions as straight-forwardly as I can. Adolescents and adults get more jovial answers.

And I agree... cool dad.

The kid definitely thought it was a cool thing. I dunno...given all the kilts I see about these days, pretty soon no one will give a second look

which is both cool and very sad

Actually, we were just discussing that on the kilt forum I participate in. Some people are dyed-in-the-wool non-conformists, and would be unhappy to see the kilt go mainstream. Me? I'd be happy to buy cheap kilts at Sears.

Need to see the blue hair. All I can bring to mind is long, black hair.

It's both now, about an even distribution of blue and black strands

That's soooo awesome! You know, even though we don't see much of you, you are an inspiration to Auliya. She's in 8th grade now and I've given her free reign to do whatever she wants with her hair. She did the blue streaks for a while, but got disillusioned with the dye we bought. Apparently it didn't last through even one washing. She's got a can of L'Oreal Red Mousse now, and I helped her put in red streaks on Sunday. What product line do you use and how often do you have to dye it?
